Finding help when Leaving Home.
Written by Richard Thomas/ November 18, 2001
Leaving home is either voluntary or by request. The anticipation of leaving home is a scary thought for some, celebrated by others. When Adam and Eve were joined in holy matrimony, it was stated, that the man, should leave his home to be joined with his (woman) wife. [ Genesis 2:23 - 24 ] The process was meant to fulfill the prime directive - populate the Earth exponentially with the human family.[ Genesis 1:28 ] The idea was for the man to launch out with his woman (wife) to generate a new habitation. To blaze new frontiers together as one.
In 1971 my wife and I launched out on our own as newly weds to a totally new area of California than where we were born and raised. It was challenging to say the least, being as our parents were 600 miles away. We were on our own but not alone. God's mighty hand of providence sustained us, even though we had not yet committed our lives to Christ. Once our commitment was made to the One that holds all things together, we found His grace to be more than sufficient. Now our children are leaving the nest to start there own life away from our presence but not our influence. And our prayer as parents is that they discover God's grace to be their sufficiency for themselves. It amazes, amuses and humbles me to watch them interact with their families - becoming their parents. Many human offspring are terrified at the prospect of leaving the nest and rightly so. It is a dangerous world out there.
To take an illustration from the animal world; after Eagles pair up, they build nests along high cliffs or on top of tall trees. The nests are sturdily built with branches of trees and twigs. Then lined with down feathers to make it soft and warm for the soon to arrive brood. The eaglets are tenderly nurtured and vigilantly protected. As the eaglets take on the form of muture birds, the parents start removing the soft lining until there is nothing left but sharp twigs and sticks to sit on. The nest is now too uncomfortable to snuggle down into, so the young masters of the sky huddle together perched on the edge - all the time. The wind begins to catch the aerodynamic design of their wings and begin to obey the law set forth by the Creator. The eaglets start experiencing lift. They've watched mom and dad do this for months. Now they are becoming their parents. The nest is no longer big enough to accommodate the entire eagle family. So the eaglets are given their eviction notice. They are driven from what once was their home. What appears to be cruelty is actually implementation of the Creator's prime directive as previously stated.
To all that are leaving home for one reason or another I can offer no other consolation but "Go with God". Make sure the anchor of hope is firmly planted in the foundation of Jesus Christ. He will never leave you or forsake you. When you pass through the flood, it will not overflow you. When through the fire, you will not be burned. He will not forsake His children. Where can you go from His Spirit? Cling to the promises of God. Do not allow His word to fall to the ground. For man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Seek first the kingdom of God, and everything will fall into place. Do not hide your talents in the earth. Make sure your life is free from the love of money. His grace is sufficient for all your needs.
"Trust and obey, For there's no other way, To be happy. Happy in Jesus, Is to trust and obey."
If you are seeking hope for a new life, it all begins with Jesus. Begin Here!
