Written by Richard Thomas/ October 15, 2001 Eating the forbidden fruit is not what opened the door for sin to enter God's perfect world. Sin entered the world through disobedience. The moment Adam and Eve grasped the thought of taking hold of the fruit that God specifically said not to eat, sin entered the world. Adam and Eve became concious of sin and thus lost their innocence. We can read in [Romans 5:12] that sin entered the world through the disobedience of one "man". As a result of one "man" sin disconnected Adam's race from a holy God until God himself "...reconciled the world to Himself..." [II Corinthians 5:17]. We also read in [Romans 8:18-22] the whole of creation was subjected to futility and corruption because of sin. When John the Baptist was preaching to and baptising repentantees in the Jordan River, he caught the attention of the religious leaders of his day. "Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and the region around the Jordan went out to him. And were being baptised in the Jordan, confessing their sins."[Matthew 3:5,6 NKJV ] The group that felt exempt from such trivial religious dogma, by reason of superior standing with God, were the Sadducees and the Pharisees Being the equivalent to extreme liberals and conservatives of the present era. Instead of cowing down to the religious authority of his day, John issued a strong rebuke without mincing. "...Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance,..."[Matthew 3:7,8 NJKV ] In other words...You serve the god of wealth, power and prestige, how can you hear the voice of the One that requires His children "...to do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God."[Micah 6:8] Instead, you swallow widows homes [Matthew 23:14 ] and tie heavy burdens upon the backs of Abraham's children that you yourselves are not willing to bear. [Matthew 23:4 ] If you have arrived here out of an awareness of sin in your life and it is knawing away at your soul.. Which it will surely do until it is taken away by faith in Jesus Christ.[ John 1:29 ] There is great hope for you. For blessed are those who morn (over their sin ) for they shall be comforted. [Matthew 5:4 ] Take comfort beloved. If you were not aware of sin in your life, you would not be hearing God calling for you. [Matthew 9:9-13 ] If you did not think you were a sinner in need of repentance, you would be a Pharisee or Sadducee. The fruit that John the Baptist was asking the Pharisees and Sadducees to produce was having the same "consciousness of sin" in their life and need for cleansing that drew the masses to the river's edge. Now before you get the idea that I'm just bashing these guys to death, I want the reader to recognize that God longs for the repentance and reconciliation of every son and daughter of Adam, including the Pharisee and Sadducee. God reached out to all humanity through the death of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ to reconcile the world to Himself. Jesus, crucifying the world to Himself opened the door to paradise and left it open for all to join Him in His kingdom. They that are crucified with Christ, symbolized through our identification with Him in baptismal ceremony, are also indentified with His resurrection from the dead by the rising up out of the water.[please read Romans chapter 6 ] The opposition to the consciousness of sin comes from the outside.[Ephesians 6:12 ] Once you hear the voice of God calling and turn into the direction of the enlightenment you will encounter stiff opposition from the prince of darkness (Satan). He is relentless in pursuit of anyone who turns against the flow of sin. [2 Corinthians 4:4 ] Take heart beloved. Those that make the 180 degree turn ( repent ) , believe the Gospel [ 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 ], you will receive the power to resist the devil. [Philippians 1:6 ][ 2 Timothy 1:7 ][ James 4:7 ][ 2 Peter 2:9 ] Being conscious of sin in your life is the first step. Doing something about it is the next logical step. As [I John 1:9] tells us..."If we confess our sin, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness." If you had a disease and the cure was free, would you go? Sin has only one cure. And it's absolutely free! The wages of sin is death and God loved us so much that He sent His only begotten Son to die in our place. He traded His life for ours. It cost God everything. If you are seeking hope for a new life, it all begins with Jesus. Begin Here!
