The writers of the Old Testament knew that they were not serving their own present personal interest in conveying the gospel message but rather recording God's plan of salvation "...of which angels long to look into."[I Peter 1:10-12] The writers of the New Testament were explaining the mystery of the Old Testament. Jesus Christ is not only the grand subject of prophecy but also the visible advent of the invisible Word of God. "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us."[John 1:14] "God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophet...in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son..."[Hebrews 1:1-2]"...God was in Christ, reconciling the world to Himself."[II Corinthians 5:19] There is an old saying; "a picture is worth a thousand words". The purpose of words is to communicate information that will paint a mental picture to someone. For example: "Straining my eyes to see the far side of this vast expanse of classic erosion leaves no doubt in my mind why this canyon that cuts through the states of Arizona, Nevada and Utah is one of the natural wonders of the planet Earth". The portrait that is painted by the writers of the Bible is the will and purpose of timeless Almighty God upon the canvas of time. The eternal will of God is that all be informed as well as conformed to the image of His only begotten Son Jesus Christ. For as Jesus told His disciple Philip, "...if you have seen me, You have seen the Father..."[John 14:9] God becoming a man to draw a picture of what He is like. After Jesus was raised from the dead, ascended to the Father and sent the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, His disciples understood whom they had rubbed shoulders with. [I John 1:1] Again, the whole point of the Bible is to paint a mental portrait of the mystery of Christ. Revelation 19:10 tells us "...the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." Starting from Genesis 3:15 the prophecies or foretelling of the coming of the redeemer of all humanity are strung together like pearls on a necklace. Each pearl represents a little piece of the mystery strung together by a scarlet thread of human history. The apostle Paul tells us in Galatians 4:4..."When the fullness of time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, to redeem those who were under the Law." As stated before, it is not the will of God that anyone should perish, but that all should come to repentance and be conformed to the image of God’s Son Jesus Christ. continue->
