Giveaways Finding help when You are Afraid Written by Richard Thomas / November 10, 2001 Many people today live in fear. Some are paralyzed with fear. And that is very understandable when you look around at all the terror in the world today. Fear has a way of controlling a person to the point death; even cause death. There are some afraid to set foot outside their house, yard or community. Fear replaces a sense of security dissolved. It can strike without warning. When my grandmother was a little girl growing up on a farm in Iowa, she and her 11 siblings hunted rattle snakes in the pasture that surrounded their estate. This went on for several years. One hot summer day she had to employ the outhouse. Opening the door, brought her face to face with a rattler coiled next to where she needed to sit. From that point till the day she departed from this world she would retreat at the mention of a slithering serpent. That fear is unwholesome would be misleading to say the least. Fear can be healthy when viewed as respect for fire, firearms, water, electricity, power tools, sharp knives etc. etc. An unhealthy fear is when there is nothing to be afraid of. Many fears are simply illusions. Illusion is the father of lies calling card. When the illusion of fear takes control a person loses hope. Without hope, despair will flourish. Despairs redolent bloom produces death. The Psalmist writes... “I sought the LORD and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears”.[Psalms 34:4 NKJV] Notice the initiation process. The Psalmist initiated and the LORD responded. Today, He is the same. Tomorrow will not change Him because He is forever the same. The LORD speaks through Isaiah... “Look to Me, and be saved, all you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.[Isaiah 45:22 NKJV] God has not given (His children) a spirit of fear, but of power, of love and of a sound mind. Again the Psalmist writes... “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom then shall I be afraid?” [Psalm 27:1 NKJV] “... For He Himself has said, I will never leave you or forsake you. So we may boldly say: The LORD is my helper: I shall not fear. What can man do to me?” [Hebrews 13:5 - 6 NKJV] If you are living in fear, you are not walking in the shadow of His wings. God has a special place for His own. They that look to Him are saved. Saved from what? Saved from the fear of death. Saved from the future destruction of this planet. Saved from an eternity of separation from the protection of God’s mighty hand. The child of God knowing that to be separated from this body is to be home with Him, is a child that walks in security. When God’s children realize that there is more to this life than meets the eye, can let go and let God. “But as many as received Him (Jesus Christ) to them He (God) gave the right to be called the children of God, to those that believe on His name.” [John 1:12 NKJV] “Let it be known...,that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth...,is the stone rejected by the builders, which has become the chief cornerstone... For there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” [Acts 4:10,11,12 NKJV] They that walk in fear have no strength. They that are possessed by fear are without hope. They that have no hope, have no life. Jesus Christ identified with our weakness when; “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us,” [John 1:14 NKJV] “Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood. He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and released those who through fear of death were all their lifetime, subject to bondage.”[Hebrews 2:14, 15] Jesus came to impart His life to us. That life becomes real when we die to our right to ourselves and take up our cross and follow Him. If you are seeking hope for a new life, it all begins with Jesus. Begin Here!
